Continuing with the previous quarter's theme of "how," this class focused not just on learning organic reactions, but also on being able to hypothesize the mechanism by which these reactions occur. We would often be given the last ten minutes of class to try to collectively determine the reaction mechanism of a given problem before Professor Nelson displayed the correct process. This is an important aspect of the sciences in general, because one has to come up with a reasonable hypothesis before testing it. Though this honors course presented its share of challenges, I appreciated the time I spent practicing the development of hypotheses, and this will translate to the work I do in the future.
