This was a one-credit seminar which met once a week for an hour, and while it involved a small time commitment, I learned a large range of information from it. Each week, a researcher from UW came in and discussed their current research, with topics including technology use among the homeless, the significance of caves and lakes in ancient Greece, and the evolution of language. My only complaint with the class is that none of the professors who gave talks were from scientific fields. While I know there are many other fields of research, I did come into the class with the expectation of hearing at least a couple talks from my field of interest or something similar. However, the one project we had to do for the class was simply to interview a researcher at UW, preferably in our field of study. This was a great opportunity to learn about the research I want to do as a career, and the result of my interview can be seen in the write-up below.
