I had a difficult time pinning down a specific "feeling" of this class. MATH 380 is actually the class code for "Special Topics in Mathematics," so the course I took, focused on discrete mathematics, is in fact not a consistent or previously designed class at UW. Partly because of this, the class felt like a hodgepodge of different topics, from voting theory to graph theory to probability. It was interesting to dip my toe into all the different subsections of math presented, and it further opened my own eyes to just how extensive the field of math can be. We also had projects in this course that involved learning Python so we could write code to approximate some more complex solutions or run trials of different game strategies in our game theory unit. This was extremely helpful to the development of my own coding capabilities, and I got a good grasp of Python by the end of the quarter.
